Hi friend! I’m so excited to welcome you into our new kitchen today! Tomorrow, we’ll have lived in this new house for exactly one month! My mom was remarking to me the other day how much we’ve done in the last two months and she’s right! No wonder I’m tired!
Our new house has an open floor plan and the kitchen is visible from the dining room and living room, basically tying the two spaces together. I remember when I first walked into the home during a Saturday open house.
As I laid eyes on the kitchen for the first time, I was blown away by the design and style. It wasn’t like any home I’d seen before, and I loved that about it.
I’ve always been a fan of all white kitchens, but this one had beautiful blue/green/grey cabinets (Magnetic Grey by Sherwin Williams) and a large wooden vent hood that was the focal point of the kitchen. How cool!
And the big piece of marble backsplash is too pretty!
The wooden island and light hardwood floors compliment each other beautifully and I can’t get over that cabinet color. It changes depending on the time of day and the room gets tons of natural light.
The large island counter is quartz, but the back countertops are contrasting black. I could have never have come up with this design plan and I loved it immediately!
By the time I finished touring the entire house and lingered back in the kitchen, I recognized that I could definitely see me and my family living here.
And now we do!

I literally wake up everyday so grateful for getting to raise my family here! I love this home so much!
Every detail was thought of and the light fixture choices are spot on! All of the lighting is from M&M Lighting.
Not to mention the high end appliances that are beyond my cooking capabilities! Although I do make a mean chocolate chip banana bread. We probably need to bake Rhonda’s chocolate chip cookies next!
Today, we’re looking at how I’ve styled and organized the kitchen, and soon I’ll have to show you the walk-in pantry behind that door. The coolest thing is that the light turns on AUTOMATICALLY when you walk in! What?!?!
I’m crazy for the big island in the center where the kids eat, do homework and hang out.
The kitchen has cabinet front appliances, so to the right of the sink is the dishwasher and to the left is a pull out drawer with room for both a recycling and trash bin.
The sink is huge and deep and I finally got the tankless hot water heater fixed so we have hot water here within seconds. It just needed an adjustment that took the plumber less than five minutes!

We moved into our new home about a month ago, and while I unboxed things quickly, it’s taken some time to refine where things actually live. It’s a disconcerting feeling when you go to reach for something and have to think twice about where that thing is.
I feel like we have a pretty good handle on most of the things in the kitchen now, but it took some brainstorming to figure out where everything would go since the space is laid out so differently than our old kitchen.
There are definitely some clever storage solutions in this kitchen though. For instance, the slats behind this door make for great cookie sheet storage.
Above that is where we keep our kitchen towels.
The microwave drawer opens with the push of a button and I like where it’s located.
Underneath that is our tupperware.
In the old house, our kitchen had loads of accessible storage in both upper and lower cabinets that wrapped around the kitchen, including three large kitchen island drawers. Here, our kitchen is basically one wall of storage, plus the adjacent wall where the bar is.
The cabinets reach all the way to the ceiling, but at that height, it’s not practical to store things you use on a daily basis. I’m only 5’1, and can barely reach the lower cabinets!
I do love this deep, open, adjustable shelving that holds the dinnerware we use daily. It makes my son’s job of unloading the dishwasher very simple.

The drawers below are nice and deep and very wide. I used the wooden bamboo organizers to make things prettier and better organized. Above this drawer is our utility drawer that I didn’t get a good pic of.
This seemed like the logical space to store pots and pans and this pan storage rack is so handy!

Then we have our everyday utensils and specialty spoons. These bamboo organizers are adjustable on the sides, so you can make them larger or smaller to fit the size of your drawer. I love how sturdy and beautiful they are.
Of course we still have a kid drawer with Jordan’s special plates, bowls and some things for taking lunch to school.
Then spices on the bottom drawer because I like to look at the labels. I guess they could go below . . .
This is a good use of space here for all those cooking things you like to keep close at hand.
And this space is highly used because we keep our cutting boards here.

The fridge is massive and I do like the large bottom freezer drawer. I’ve never had a cabinet front fridge, but it’s pretty cool!
To the right of the fridge is handy storage and I’m using it for my pretty glasses, small ceramic bowls (we usually eat ice cream in these), my baking dishes, OXO Mixing Bowls and Glass Food Prep Containers. I have my roast pan here, but maybe it could fit with the pots and pans?
I love this deep drawer to the left of the fridge that allows me to keep my Vitamix, food processor and crock pot all in one place. That Vitamix is tall, so the height here is great.
Continuing around the bar, I have our cloth napkins in the top drawer.
Napkin rings and accessories below that. We couldn’t live without our Cork Pops! And seeing these bunny napkin rings reminds me that I should do an Easter tablescape soon! The “Cheers” labels are from Etsy, ready for me to gift to my next hostess with a bottle of wine!
A few party plates and napkins are kept below.
And then seasonal cloth napkins below.
And in the bottom drawer are chargers, placemats and tablecloths.
OPEN SHELVING
One of the features that I was automatically drawn to was the beautiful wooden open shelving in the kitchen. It was one of the first things I played around with trying to style and I’m liking how it turned out so far.
I started with a neutral color palette of black and white, tied in with the warmth of the wooden shelving and then pops of green in faux plants.
Beginning with the larger pieces, then layering in books in coordinating colors, and finally filling in the gaps with smaller pieces.

Next to my beloved coffee maker I have a basket with cups and saucers and sometimes add seasonal decor like these adorable faux carrots.
This canister set is handy for holding coffee beans, tea bags and sweeteners.
