Posted by admin on

The A’ Design Award & Competition, one of the world’s largest and most recognized design accolades, is a testament to the diverse, creative minds that inspire each other and help shape the world. Each year, the competition recognizes makers, brands, and innovators in all creative fields whose works have the makings of driving change in society.

Beginners and veterans alike have an equal chance of being awarded for their novelty. To encourage fair opportunities, entries are all peer-reviewed and anonymously judged by a rotating jury panel of academics, design experts, prominent press members, and experienced entrepreneurs.

The previous 2021–2022 edition saw winners hail from 114 countries and 110 design disciplines for their commendable contributions to creativity, technology, and science. The competition’s designs have been viewed over 156 million times, so this is the right place for anyone wishing to have their work shown on a global stage.

For their hard work, Laureates will enjoy recognition, prestige, and international publicity. And that’s not counting the all-encompassing winners’ kit, which includes an international design excellence certificate, the esteemed A’ Design Award trophy, inclusion in the World Design Rankings, an invitation to the gala-night in Italy, allocations in the accolade’s online and offline exhibitions, media appearances through the press, and a license to use the A’ Design Award Winner logo, among several other perks.

The award is now calling for submissions, and interested design aficionados and brands should register here. DesignTAXI will announce the winners for this round on April 15, 2023.

By refreshing its selections annually, the A’ Design Award & Competition aspires to continually challenge the creative world so that it strives to evolve. Scroll down to see some interesting winning projects from the past years.

Exo Chair
by Svilen Gamolov

“The name of the chair comes from the Greek word Exo, meaning outside. This is a slight hint addressed to the viewer about the need to escape beyond the visual overflow of the daily communication,” notes Svilen Gamolov.

Before the Midnight Hour Furniture Illustrations
by Martin Reznik

This suspense-filled series of illustrations was “commissioned by furniture designer Marc Krusin… [and features] his most prominent furniture designs for Knoll and Desalto,” introduces Martin Reznik. “The project breaks the conventions of furniture illustration by bringing a narrative to the scenes, [with its] use of exaggerated perspective and a film noir aesthetic. The lack of human presence and scattered objects add an element of mystery. The protagonist is revealed in a surprise ending.”

Heli X Modular Furniture System
by Helen Sauter

“Nowadays, more and more people want to live in cities where the rents are rising and the housing options are getting fewer. Due to that, living in small apartments or tiny houses is a common practice,” Helen Sauter reflects. “The starting point of this design was the question: How can flexibility, tidiness, and a homelike atmosphere be provided in such a small space? This design was inspired by my personal experiences with living in a really small apartment where I had to constantly remodel furniture to adapt to all the different situations that life brings along.”

Yunxi Characteristic Restaurant
by Shang Cai

“With water taken as the design theme, and through [the] fusion of light and shadow, modeling in space, materials and color, the designer interprets the unique permeability and fluidity of water elements. Floh Travel Luggage
by Rohan Siebel

Catzz Cat Bed
by Mirko Vujicic

“I was inspired by my own cat in terms of both form and function. Distinct geometry in my cat’s facial features guided the form of design, whereas her movement and behavior inspired the interactive aspect,” reveals Mirko Vujicic. “The material was chosen to fit the cat’s needs for a warm and snugly environment, which felt provides. Knowing that cats are always on the lookout for the perfect hiding and resting spot and that their preferences vary, it was important for me to provide the possibility for adaptation.”

Malangen Family Retreat
by Snorre Stinessen

“The Malangen retreat explores, in particular, the values of the different activities in everyday life... Each function and activity has been organized in separate volumes which are connected by in-between spaces,” shares Snorre Stinessen. “These in-between spaces have a primary function of separating activities and spaces, but also symbolize a journey between each activity. The main goal of the design is to bring to light values that are often forgotten in a hectic life and also highlight the connection and respect to the nature around us.”

Hubertus Hotel
by Elisabeth Mitterer, Lukas Rungger and Andreas Profanter

“The debarked larch trunks—used as multifunctional façade elements—create an optical link between existing and new buildings. The fluid shape of the new design follows the topography of the existing landscape with its slope and steep contour lines... With [its] earthy tones and perforation, it allows access to the view while at the same time enhancing the feeling of privacy,” detail Elisabeth Mitterer, Lukas Rungger, and Andreas Profanter.

Gradient Vodka Soda Packaging
by Mark Rowe and John Eresman

“Gradient is the world’s first alcohol mixed pack to package multiple, gradually reducing alcohol content drinks in one pack—8%, 7%, 6%, 4%, 3%, 2% alc./vol. The decreasing dot matrix design perfectly matches the gradient dot matrix on the one-of-a-kind six-in-a-line box,” note Mark Rowe and John Eresman. “This unique concept gives people a fun way to moderate their night, encouraging people to drink less and less so they stay ‘bright’ all night.”
