When expecting my son, I was firmly convinced of the benefits of breastfeeding and had decided that was what I was going to do.
We got off to a rocky start, but things got better quickly, and we’ve been going strong ever since
What I didn’t expect was that as his independence, personality and sense of humour have developed, he has begun inviting wooden, plastic or plush friends to nurse with him. And they aren’t even all toy animals!
Thus I have found myself nursing, among others, a plush elephant, a wooden train, a jigsaw dinosaur, and a police car. He takes great delight in taking turns with his inanimate friends, often even letting them go first.
And so I have learnt to expect the unexpected, even in breastfeeding, and motherhood continues to make me laugh!
